E-gate has been officially launched at the airport in the country. From now on, passengers who have an e-passport will be able to go to different countries of the world using e-gate.

Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal inaugurated the program at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport on Wednesday (June 30) afternoon.

The Home Minister said the government will introduce e-visa this time after e-passport.
The gate will be opened automatically after issuing the passport at the e-gate at the airport with the e-passport, then the immigration activities of the expatriates will end in just 30 seconds after the main gate is opened as soon as the passport information matches the picture of the person.

The Passport Department says work on e-gates at the country’s other two international airports is nearing completion. As a result of e-gate, if a vaccine passport is introduced in the future, it is possible to use it at e-gate, said Major General Ayub Chowdhury, Director General of Passport Department.

The Home Minister said e-passport activities are underway in 72 regional passport offices of the country. The minister said that visas will be introduced in the country with e-passport in the near future.

After the introduction of the e-passport, the passport department has so far issued e-passports to 1 million customers in the country.
