A strong cyclone hit Gujarat. A strong cyclone has hit the Gujarat coast of India. The Indian Meteorological Department said the cyclone struck around 8:30 pm local time on Monday (May 17).
Heavy rains have already started in the area. The process of landslides has already begun. To deal with the situation, about 1.5 lakh people have been evacuated from Porbandar and surrounding districts on the Gujarat coast.
The administration fears that the coastal areas of Porbandar, Amreli, Junagarh, Gir Somnath, Bhavnagar, and Ahmedabad could be severely damaged. 11 navies, 12 flood response forces, and medical teams have been deployed in the state.
A Gujarat government official said this was the strongest cyclone in the last 20 years. Earlier in 1998, a cyclone hit Gujarat. About four thousand people lost their lives in it.
