At 8.30 am local time on Wednesday (June 30), six Indian Army personnel were on their way to Gangtok in Sikkim in a truck. They are all members of the Kumaon Regiment of the Indian Army.
The truck’s wheel slipped on New Jawaharlal Nehru Road, 10 km before Gangtok. The truck lost control and fell into a 600-foot-deep ditch.
A local resident told Hindustan Times that it was raining heavily at the time of the accident. And that is where the accident happened.
Meanwhile, Sikkim police said it was raining heavily. In the meanwhile, an accident has taken place. An army member died on the spot. Three more died at the Army Hospital in Gangtok.
Meanwhile, doctors at a local hospital in Sikkim said the condition of the two injured army members was critical. They have been kept under close observation.
