Russia’s passenger plane is missing, in danger of crash. A Russian plane carrying 28 passengers has gone missing, according to Al Jazeera. The plane went missing while flying over the Kamchatka Peninsula in the eastern part of the country.
Al Jazeera quoted Russia’s Tas news agency as saying on Tuesday (July 6th). According to Al Jazeera, the Antonov AN-26 lost contact with the air traffic controller while flying over the Kamchatka Peninsula.
According to Tas, a source told them the plane could have crashed into the sea. Another Russian news agency, Interfax, said it could land in a coal mine near the town of Palana.
Two helicopters were sent to search the area, Interfax reported.
Occasional horrific plane crashes occur in Russia. However, in recent years the country has improved on safe aviation.
Even then, there have been a number of fatal planes crashes in Russia in recent years due to laxity in passenger aircraft maintenance and safety standards.
The last time a Russian flag-carrying plane caught fire was in May 2019 at the Russian capital, Moscow. The plane later crashed, killing 41 passengers.
